Close to the Elephants

You can see many elephants in the Minneriya and Udawalawe national parks, but if you want to get really close to the elephants, go to the Pinnawela Elephant Orphanage or the Millennium Elephant Foundation. These organizations take care of injured and orphan elephants. and are located close to Kandy.

Bird watching is possible in all the reserves and national parks of Sri Lanka. Kumana and Bundala national parks have some of the best bird watching spots. The Sinharaja Rainforest Reserve probably offers the best bird watching excursion in Sri Lanka, with more than 160 recorded species to spot.

Whale and Dolphin Watching

Dolphins can be spotted in abundance in Kalpitiya between December and April. You can see the blue whale in Mirissa during the same period. From March to August you can go on a blue whale expedition to Trincomalee on the east coast of Sri Lanka.
