Day 2

Kalpitiya

Go on an amazing dolphin watching tour to observe hundreds of dolphins playing in the clear blue waters. If this is your lucky day, you might even spot a whale or two! Kalpitiya has become a world famous location for Whale and Dolphin watching expeditions. Relax on the beach and soak up the sun in the afternoon.

Return to the hotel for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 3

Kalpitiya – Wilpattu National Park – Anuradhapura

After breakfast head to Sri Lanka’s largest national park, the Wilpattu National Park. The park which was at one time closed down was reopened in 2009. The park is in the state of being developed, so don’t expect too much. However, it is certainly a tourist site worth exploring. Elephants, leopards, wild pigs, deers, crocodiles and birds are commonly seen here. Board a safari jeep in the afternoon to discover the incredible flora and fauna of Wilpattu.

Day 4
Anuradhapura

Visit Anuradhapura. (If you wish to discover the finer details of this ancient city, you can spend up to 3 days here) Anuradhapura, a UNESCO world heritage site is Sri Lanka’s first capital city. The city is world famous for its well preserved ruins.

Proceed to Mihintale, 12 kilometers off Anuradhapura. It is revered as the place where Buddhism originated in Sri Lanka. The sacred Mihintale Mountain features various shrines connected with more than 1800 steps.

Day 5
Anuradhapura – Knuckles Range

After breakfast, drive to the Knuckles Mountain range. On your way, visit the sacred, 3rd century Dambulla Cave Temple that features ancient Buddhist mural paintings and excavated caves with shrines. With 5 caves, containing more than 150 Buddha statues, this temple has been designated a World Heritage Site.

Discover the Knuckles Mountain Range, an eco-tourism hotspot, home to some of the rarest and most diverse flora and fauna.

Hiking in Sri Lanka

Day 6
Knuckles Ranges

Enjoy a full day of trekking along the famous trails of the Knuckles Mountain range. After breakfast depart early from the tea plantations. On your way get a bird’s eye view of the surrounding green fields, trees and the mountains. Enjoy a picnic lunch. Observe the passing cardamom plantations and dense forests as you drive away. Stop for a swim in the clean clear river and head back to the hotel in the evening.

Trekking in Knuckles range

Day 7
Knuckles Range – Kandy

Resume another full day of trekking in the Knuckles Mountain range. Observe the magnificent views, the beautiful flora and amazing fauna on your way to the summit. You will also discover a hidden waterfall on your way back down the mountainside.

Transfer to your hotel in Kandy.

Day 8
Kandy – Nuwara Eliya

Discover Kandy, the last royal capital of the country. Discover the impressive town area by foot, starting from the world renowned Temple of the Tooth Relic. The temple is famous for its historical procession the ‘Kandy Esala Perahera’, which takes place in August very year. Later, you can enjoy strolling around the Kandy Lake, visit the town center, the arts and crafts center and the vibrant bazaar.

After lunch, proceed to Nuwara Eliya.

Before dinner, take a stroll in the Victoria Park, one of the best town parks in South Asia.

Day 9
Nuwara Eliya – Horton Plains – Colombo

Visit the Horton Plains National Park, in the morning. This national park is considered a UNESCO world heritage site for its unique landscape and fauna. You will continue your hike through beautiful villages and vast paddy fields. Then, hike up to the ‘World’s End’, a steep, majestic cliff located at an altitude of about 4000 feet above sea level.

Drive back to the hotel, passing paddy fields, tea, fruit and vegetable plantations. Drive back to the busy metropolis of Colombo. Check into your hotel.
