Day 1

Airport Colombo – Galle (3 hour drive – car)

Our representative will meet you upon your arrival at the airport and drive you south to Galle, the first stop in your tropical paradise cycling tour. Transfer to your hotel in Galle. Take a mesmerizing walk around this historic city and visit the famed Galle Fort. Return to hotel for relaxation and overnight.

Day 2

Galle and its surroundings (65kms, about 5-6 hours – soft level)

Enjoy a delicious breakfast and meet your cycling guide, who will give you a safety briefing and explain the general course of the cycling route you will be taking. The guide will provide you with a mountain bike and a helmet. Now you can begin your cycling adventure! First you’ll cycle on small dirt roads going through scenic villages. You can discover the beautiful Sri Lankan countryside, fields of cinnamon and a tea factory. Stop by to tour a workshop that creates traditional masks and artful wooden crafts. Then have lunch at one of the fine local restaurants. Afterwards, hit the road again for the 65km segment of the day’s cycling tour, passing through lush paddy fields and coconut plantations. You can take a break and enjoy a refreshing drink of King Coconut. You can rest here for a while if you wish; don’t worry the rest of the team will stay with you. Return to the hotel for relaxation, dinner and overnight.

Udawalawe National Park Jeep Safari

Day 3

Galle – Uda Walawe National Park (70km, 4-5 hours – moderate)

Early in the morning resume you cycling tour towards the Udawalawe National Park, one of Asia’s best safari destinations, through Deniyaya. You will cycle on small roads and paths crossing villages and small towns of the region enjoying scenes of farmers working in rice fields and white uniform-clad children on their way to school. Enjoy lunch on the road. Transfer to your hotel early afternoon. Then you will go on an exciting jeep safari at Udawalawe to marvel at herds of wild elephants, monkeys, water buffalo, peacocks, leopards and many other fascinating animals. Return to hotel for dinner and overnight.

Day 4

Uda Walawe – Ella (70km, 4-5 hours, moderate to difficult)

After breakfast, drive towards Ella going past pastures, tea plantations and beautiful colonial bungalows built by the British. You will then arrive at the Hill Country of Sri Lanka, about 21 miles above sea level, where the weather is unpredictable so pack a raincoat. Transfer to your hotel for dinner and overnight.

Day 5
Ella – Haputale – Ella (20-30 kms, 2:00 – soft level)

Continue your biking adventure early morning and cycle towards the scenic Little Adam’s Peak. Then visit a tea plantation to try your hand and plucking tea leaves. Discover the fascinating art of processing tea from leaf to tea bag. After a gratifying lunch, go and admire the splendid waterfalls of the area. Then your driver will take you to Haputale to visit a tea factory and the famous Lipton’s Seat of Scottish tea baron Sir Thomas Lipton. Enjoy a refreshing walk back down. Return to your hotel in Ella for dinner and overnight. If you prefer, you can enjoy a revitalizing Ayurvedic massage at hotel (not included in tour package).

Day 6
Ella – Nuwara Eliya (train + 30-40kms, 2-3 hours, moderate level)

In the morning, hop on a train for a marvelous journey through the mountains to Nanu Oya for your next stage of cycling. You will discover the beautiful landscapes of historic Nuwara Eliya, the highest town in the country. You can enjoy a relaxing walk through Victoria Park or around Lake Gregory here. Transfer to your hotel for overnight.

Day 7
Nuwara Eliya – Kandy (70 kms, about 4-5hours, moderate)

Enjoy a delicious breakfast and start cycling towards Kandy through slightly winding roads enjoying lush scenery. Once you arrive, visit the Peradeniya Botanical Gardens to enjoy impressive collections of orchids, roses, bougainvillea and other lovely flora. Then discover the historic city of Kandy on foot, starting with a visit to the Temple of the Tooth, a sacred Buddhist shrine believed to hold a tooth relic of the Buddha. Afterwards, take a refreshing walk around the Temple’s lake and visit the vibrant vegetable market nearby selling many healthy, exotic veggies. Transfer to your hotel late afternoon and relax.

Kandy (20km, about 2 hours, moderate, 2-3 hours trekking)

Bike towards Hanthana Mountains early morning. Then trek through the lush tropical forests of these mountains and discover impressive biodiversity. This is a little known area for tourists, so you get the unique opportunity to enjoy unspoiled nature. The terrain contains many different landscapes for you to feast your eyes on. Return to hotel for overnight.

Day 9
Kandy – Habarana (50-60 kms, about 4 hours, moderate level)

Cycle towards Dambulla in the morning, a historic city and the heart of the Cultural Triangle. Enjoy the breathtaking scenery along the way and you can also enjoy climbing the stunning Knuckles Range, a protected forest area. Once you arrive at Dambulla, you can visit the famous Buddhist cave temples (not included in tour package). Continue on bike towards the Bakamuna Junction. Transfer to your hotel for dinner and overnight.

Day 10
Habarana – Sigiriya – Habarana (40-50 km, about 3-4 hours soft level)

Early morning, visit the legendary Sigiriya rock fortress, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known as the “eighth wonder of the world.” This ancient royal abode has stunning frescoes, gardens with natural caves and the ruins of the ancient royal palace at the summit. Resume your bike tour by cycling to Morasgawewa. Take small roads alongside banana plantations and enjoy a change in scenery. You can see many fascinating animals while cycling, such as kingfishers and monkeys. You can visit the Habarana village for a canoe trip on a scenic lake filled with lotuses and lunch with the locals (not included in tour package). Habarana – Polonnaruwa (70 kms, about 3-4 hours soft level)

Go on a full day tour of Polonnaruwa, the royal capital of the island from 11th to 12th centuries. Discover marvelous ruins of palaces, temples, bathing pools, and especially the Kalu Gal Vihara that has a set of four Buddha statues carved in granite. You will be greeted by mischievous monkeys while touring. Enjoy lunch at a nearby restaurant before visiting the Polonnaruwa Museum. Then, resume your cycling tour. Transfer to your hotel in the afternoon for a delicious barbeque by the Polonnaruwa Lake and overnight.

Polonnaruwa – Negombo (70 kms, about 3-4 hours soft level)

You will cycle on scenic countryside roads through the small towns of Narammala, Yakvila, Bihalpola until you arrive in Negombo. Get off your bike and hit the alluring Negombo beach for swimming, sunbathing or watersports. Transfer to your beachside resort for dinner and overnight.
